So we rode last week (eighteen of us) despite the fact there was some rain and the forecast had a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. Huhhh?
The answer is simple. With our own personal hotline courtesy of Anne-Marie we were able to determine at 9:00 a.m. that there was no risk of lightning until early afternoon and therefore it was safe to ride. It was a little cool and the roads were wet some of the time, but a great ride compared to none at all.
When possible if the weather looks iffy I will try to issue a weather update on the blog by 7:45 a.m. the morning of the ride. If it's thundering or there's a high likelihood of a thunderstorm (i.e. lightning) then I will cancel the ride for safety reasons. However, sometimes even though the forecast may call for a thunderstorm it might not be expected until later in the day or the situation may not be clear. In those cases we may not be able to make the call until we get to the legion.
In all cases the ultimate decision on whether to ride or not is up to you though.
