Bike Porn

There are a lot of sweet bikes in FOG; old classics, cutting edge new carbon sculptures. Bike lust is truly an individual and irrational thing. In our minds certain brands are so much better while others suck because one weighs 20 grams less than another or Fabian can time trial for an hour at 57 km/hr on his Cervelo, or Specialized, or Trek, or that's the brand that Johan Museeuw won his third Paris Roubaix on in 2002. I'm sure Marc and Daniel wouldn't have hammered me and left me for dead on the side of the road at BHP on Thursday if only...
Bikes have become so much better and there are so many good ones out there. Half of the battle is mental and if your bike makes your feel like a star you'll probably ride better and at least ride more often. And they do capture our imagination as objects of beauty; engineering marvels, ever and ever lighter yet stronger, stiffer and yet more compliant.
I was never a Cannondale guy. No rationale reason, just couldn't get into them. Chris Ashley's Cannondale SuperSix Team Issue with matching team SRM from last year is just drop dead gorgeous. But right now the sweetest of them all is Gary Edward's Cannondale SuperSix EVO Ultimate. I just double dog dare you to lift it.  A couple of water bottles feel like they weigh more. There's no rational reason to want a bike that mind-blowingly light, but I want need one. Or maybe a new Cervelo, or Ridley...

Maybe we lust after new bikes because they make us feel like we're riding in Italy like this.
