Awesome day for a bike race. Thanks to everyone for coming out and especially to our volunteers.
Everyone put on a very exciting display of racing in the Strade Bianche.
Neil Ferguson and Rod Colwell chased by Monica Young opened up a huge lead on a tremendous cat 5 field by the first time through the gravel, only to be chased and passed by a well coordinated pack.
In cat 4 Mike Payment and Kurt Penno powered away in a break away on the last lap to take critical bonus points to earn their places at the top of the cat 4 GC.
The cat 2/3 men put on an awe inspiring display averaging over 40 kph on the gravel. Olli Hyytiainen launched a crushing attack on the last lap only to be slowly brought back by an exhausted pack. Tim Friesen counter attacked at just the right moment breaking away for the win.
Results are here.
Some photos of the prologue here from Rod Colwell.

It was Neil and me (Rod Colwell) that lead the Cat 5 race for a large amount of the time. Most of the group took an errant turn shortly after the gravel section started which left only a couple of us headed off down the correct road. It was fun while it lasted for this first time road racer :)
Cheers, Rod
