Some sage advice from Lance Armstrong's coach Chris Carmichael in an email he sent out today about riding in the wind:
Don’t be a martyr: If you’re on a group ride and you’re not the strongest one out there, hide as much as you can in the first half of the ride. Conserve your energy so you have the power to stay with the group all the way home; otherwise you may find yourself all alone in a stiff wind.
Two key points:
1) If you're not the strongest in your group and that applies to any ride, hide in the draft as much as possible. It will allow you to keep pace with the faster riders.
2) Strictly speaking FOG is a club ride, not a group ride. We'll get into that later, but even in a group ride be prepared for the possibility of being dropped, it happens.
