Number of riders: 43
Start Temp: 14C
Finish Temp: 19C
Wind: WNW 9
Humidity 80%
Distance 97 km (Legion to Big Bridge to Hwy 44 to BHP via east gate back to Legion)
Total Time: Start to finish including all stops for the fast group 2:53
Another humid, but dry ride. We rode as a group to Lockport, then quickly divided into 'normal' and 'fast' groups. No bathroom break at Lockport. The groups rode separately for the rest of the ride. The majority of both groups rode the whole distance. Stops for both groups were kept to a minimum. By all accounts pretty much everyone was happy with this. From the time my pedals started turning to the time I arrived back at the legion the total running time including all stops was 2:53. The time previous to this the group took 3:23 for the exact same distance! One has to be careful about making too many conclusions as weather conditions and size of group can cause variations, but typically the normal ride length is in the 3 1/2 hour range.
Fast Group Suumary
Number of Riders: 23
Typical Speed: 44 kph
Total Time: 2:53
Ride Leader: Gary Sewell
Enforced Stops: Big Bridge and BHP East Gate
A fast ride in that the typical cruising speed was about 44kph and the ride went by very quickly. OTOH it was never super strenuous as the speed never hit stretches of 48-50+ on the flats. A wide variety of abilities presented some challenge, but the group by and large handled it well and almost no one had to drop back.
Regular Group Summary
Number of Riders: 20
Typical Speed: 35 kph
Total Time: approx 3:13
Ride Leader: Howard Ryant
Stops: Selkirk and ?BHP
By all reports the regular group had a nice steady ride with minimal stopping.
The ideal dress for the day was a jersey, shorts, arm warmers, +/- base layer. Rain jacket in the back pocket. Could have used some knee warmers to start.
